Naturally Curious? We've Got Answers

Frequently Asked Qeustions

Are palm leaf plates compostable and biodegradable?

Yes. Our areca palm leaf plates are 100% compostable and biodegradable. Made from naturally fallen palm leaves with no chemicals, coatings or additives, they meet BS EN 13432 standards and break down completely in a home or commercial compost, typically within 60 days, leaving no toxic residue.

2. What are palm leaf plates made from?

Palm leaf plates are made from the naturally shed sheaths of the areca palm tree. The fallen leaves are collected, cleaned with water, and heat-pressed into shape. No trees are cut down and nothing is added — each plate is a single, natural material
with its own unique grain and texture.

3. Are palm leaf plates microwave and oven safe?

Yes. Areca palm leaf plates are microwave safe for short reheating and oven safe up to around 200°C for limited periods. Because they're made purely from leaf with no plastic lining, they handle hot food well without warping or leaching.

4. Are palm leafplates strong enough for heavy or saucy food?

Yes. Palm leaf plates are notably sturdier than paper or standard disposable plates. They're rigid, leak-resistant and hold up to wet, oily and heavy foods like curries, BBQ and roast dinners without bending or going soggy.

5. What's the difference between palm leaf and bagasse tableware?

Both are eco-friendly and compostable, but they differ in look, feel and cost.

Palm leaf (areca) tableware has a premium, rustic, natural-grain appearance and is very strong — ideal for weddings and stylish events.

Bagasse (sugarcane fibre) tableware has a smooth, uniform white finish and is more economical — ideal for large-scale catering and everyday use.

We stock both so you can choose the right fit.

6. Are palm leaf and bagasse plates food safe?

Yes. Both are food safe and chemical-free. Palm leaf plates are simply heat-pressed natural leaf, and bagasse is made from sugarcane fibre — neither contains plastic, wax or bleach, so there's nothing to leach into your food.

7. Can you put palm leaf plates in the freezer or fridge?

Yes. Palm leaf and bagasse tableware can be safely used in the fridge and freezer, making them suitable for storing prepped food, cold buffets and leftovers as well as hot serving.

8. How do I dispose of palm leaf and bagasse plates?

Because they're made from natural plant material, you can add them to a home compost bin, a food/garden waste collection, or a commercial composting facility. Palm leaf plates compost at home; bagasse breaks down fastest in commercial composting. If composting isn't available, they can go in general waste where they'll still biodegrade far faster than plastic.

9. Are palm leaf plates reusable?

They're designed as premium single-use tableware, but they're sturdy enough to be rinsed and reused a few times for dry or light foods. For best results, hand-wash gently and air-dry; they aren't intended for the dishwasher.

10. Do you sell palm leaf plates wholesale or in bulk?

Yes. We offer bulk cartons and multi-buy discounts on most products, with pricing that improves at larger quantities — ideal for caterers, wedding planners, restaurants and event suppliers. Contact us for bespoke wholesale pricing on large or recurring orders.

11. Are palm leaf plates good for weddings and parties?

They're a popular choice for weddings, garden parties and corporate events. The natural texture and elegant finish elevate table settings, while the strength and leak resistance handle a full meal. We also offer ready-made party and wedding tableware packages that bundle plates and cutlery together.

12. What sizes of palm leaf and bagasse plates do you offer?

Our plates range from 6" (small/side and dessert), through 8" (medium), to 10" and 12" (large dinner and serving sizes), in round, square, hexagonal and compartment styles (shallow and deep options included) so you can match the plate to the course and occasion.

13. Is your disposable cutlery eco-friendly?

Yes. Our disposable cutlery is made from birchwood — a renewable, biodegradable and compostable material. It's sturdy, splinter-free and available as individual pieces or as a 4-in-1 fork, knife, spoon and napkin set in a paper wrap.

14. How long dopalm leaf plates take to decompose?

Under composting conditions, palm leaf plates typically break down within about 60 days, returning to the soil as natural matter. This compares to centuries for plastic plates.
